CHILDCARE
Introduction
Though the state has long had one of the country’s highest rates of workforce participation among parents with young children, a recent study from the Center for American Progress found that more than 3.8 million Minnesotans are living in a community with fewer than one child care center spot for every three kids who need it—a condition defined as a “child care desert.”

Type of Careers
Childcare Teacher
Also known as daycare teachers, childcare teachers are typically employed by childcare facilities and centers to provide for children’s basics needs while parents are unavailable. They ensure that children’s developmental, nutritional, health, and educational needs are taken care of.
Daycare Assistant
Day Care assistants use their childcare skills to take care of children in a daycare setting. This can include helping with homework, playing games, reading stories, changing diapers, preparing meals or snacks, and helping children practice good hygiene. Although day care assistants usually work in a dedicated daycare facility, they can also work out of private households, schools, or offices.
Preschool Teacher
Preschool teachers are responsible for educating and guiding young children during the years before they begin compulsory education at an elementary or primary school.
