Transportation

Wright County has a strong transportation network. It includes I-94, US 12, MN 55, MN 101, MN 25 and MN 24. Mississippi River crossings are located in Otsego, Monticello and Clearwater.

Two Class 1 railway systems pass through Wright County. The Canadian Pacific Railroad parallels MN 55, running through Rockford, Buffalo, Maple Lake, Annandale and South Haven. The BNSF Railway follows US 12. It passes through Delano, Montrose, Waverly, Howard Lake and Cokato.

Light air travel and transport is possible from two Wright County municipal airports in Buffalo and Maple Lake.

Major industries in Wright County include power generation, manufacturing, health care and retail trade. Manufacturers produce electronic components, food products, engine drive components, machined and fabricated metal parts and wood products. Major employers include Xcel Energy, Bernatello’s Pizza Inc., Dura Supreme, MP NexLevel LLC, Landscape Structures, UMC, Ironworks, J&B Wholesale Distribution, Inc., Wright Hennepin Electric and the headquarters for Cargill Kitchen Solutions. Currently, 2,859 businesses make their homes in Wright County (2013).

In 2014, just over 17 percent of Wright County employees worked in manufacturing – seven points higher than the national average.
